To diagnose a Jones fracture or an avulsion fracture and the extent of the injury, your physician will have to perform an X-ray. Both of these conditions are something you should have checked out with your doctor as soon as possible. While these two fractures are similar, an avulsion foot fracture often occurs when you roll your ankle. It is quite common for an avulsion foot fracture to occur in the fifth metatarsal. Additionally, if you believe that you may have a broken bone in your foot, you should cease all unnecessary activity and contact your Podiatrist.
